On your arrival we can visit in person about a more nuanced range of options for you. And we will also have maps/flyers with attractions and late-breaking news!
The Inn is in the heart of the historic district and adjacent to the National Park. We are a 5-10 minute walk to all attractions including Lower Town Village, the National Park Service Museums (which are excellent) including a 20 minute video overview, the Storer College and Museum, Ghost Tours, the Old Hilltop Hotel and vista, the historic Harpers Ferry Cemetery and vista, Jefferson Rock, the Appalachian Trail Conservancy Center.

We highly recommend for you... True Treats Historic Candy at 144 High Street with candies from the 1700's and one of the most fascinating candy experts in the world. And DO NOT MISS National Park Service costumed interpreters throughout the day who provide insightful characterizations that draw you in to the implications of the civil war and our place in history. They are so very well trained and will leave you talking for hours following the presentations with thought provoking inquiry about the civil war, its causes, outcomes, and current implications.
And you will want to take in the marvelous National Park Service Museums scattered throughout town including Storer College, the Niagra Movement, and the John Brown Museum.
The Lower Village features a world of culture, shopping, and dining. There is shopping galore... drop in on The Vintage Lady (Cindi and BillyRay just won the 2018 WV Best Soecialty Boutique), Harpers Ferry Historical Association Bookshop, Magpie Potters , Mary’s Accessories, and Tenfold Fair Trade Collection among the many offerings.
And Upper Town/Bolivar features culture and nightlife at The Barn of Harpers Ferry, The Anvil Restaurant, and Rivers Gallery and Studios.
For meals there are a range of options (walkable and/or drivable!) Some of our favorites include The Anvil, Mena's Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant, Country Cafe, (where you can get your National Park Passport stamped,) and Scoops Ice Cream and Cafe, Canal House, Junction Br-B-Que, and Rations Cafe. Or visit Battleground Bakery provides outstanding deli style snacks on fresh baked bread, A Step In Time Bakery offers treats and from scratch WV peperoni rolls along with the opened Almost Heaven featuring Bar-B-Que.
All of these are within walking distance or less than 5 minutes by car from our front door! Harpers Ferry operates on the National Park Service schedule, so depending on time some restaurants attractions may close earlier in the evening. So let us help you check before you go.
And of course, we are a gateway to all things West Virginia. Let us know additional interests and we can point you toward some great adventures throughout the region. For hiking and cycling there are multiple trails for every skill level. We will have to see how the weather is early April... there are so many options!
A 4 block walk will take you into the Harpers Ferry Cemetery with one of the most stunning views you will ever witness. Here you can easily walk the only part of the Appalachian Trail that passes through West Virginia! You can also take the rail bridge walkway over the Potomac and on to the C&O canal for a scenic walk or bike rental.
For a more strenuous hike and a spectacular view... branch off the C&O and head up to Maryland Heights for the most stunning view of the Harpers Ferry (about 50 minutes one way-and children and grandparents do it all the time). You can see three states from the overlook, two rivers, and all Harpers Ferry like a picture post card. It really is breathtaking!
Harpers Ferry is the perfect place of digging in to WV. Harpers Ferry has so much to do and then broadening the circle you will find opportunities galore... including festivals, wineries, and hiking. It might even be warm enough for some river kayaking.
For evening, or in the event of inclement weather, Shepherdstown (a 15-20 minute drive) has a range of great restaurants along with the one of a kind O’Hurley’s Mercantile. There are wineries everywhere within a 15 minute drive as well. We highly recommend the adventure courses and river rafting.
And of course you can visit nearby Charles Town Hollywood Casino if you enjoy the experiences of indoor gaming and racing.
